Dublin, Ireland — 9th October 2024 — The Board of the National Children’s Science Centre (NCSC) is pleased to announce the appointment of Barbara Galavan as CEO.

Barbara brings a distinguished career in executive leadership and strategic planning to her new role. Her experience includes working with both public and private stakeholders, expertise in negotiation, corporate governance and compliance in both private business and the not-for-profit sector.

Barbara served as CEO of Screen Producers Ireland, where she led the representative organisation to achieve a significant increase for members in the film and television sectoral tax incentive. She was elected to the Board of the European Coordination of Independent Producers (CEPI) representing 6000 European based companies and served as its Chair from November 2015 to November 2016. Previously she served on the Irish Government Task Force for the music industry and was Vice Chair of the Irish Music Rights Organisation.

Paul Duffy, Chair of the Board at the National Children’s Science Centre, commented, "We are delighted to welcome Barbara to lead our team as CEO. Her extensive experience with public, private and not-for-profit stakeholders makes her the perfect fit for the NCSC. Ireland is the only OECD country without a national children’s science centre and with Barbara’s leadership, we will now focus on ensuring the delivery of a long held promise from Government to provide a science centre for children.”

Barbara said, "I am very pleased to join the National Children’s Science Centre as CEO. With planning permission now secured to restore the building at Earlsfort Terrace, I am looking forward to working with our partners in Government as we prepare to turn a longstanding aspiration into a reality. Creating a science centre for children in Ireland and for visitors to Dublin could not be a better use of this historic building. The future is bright for science education in Ireland.”
